PHC forms inquiry committee

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday formed an inquiry committee for the recovery of a woman and her two children, missing for the last two years after her husband married another woman.

Noor Rehman, resident of Daudzai and the missing girl’s father, had filed a habeas corpus petition seeking recovery of her daughter Noor Jehan, 25, and her two sons Farhan and Qiam, who all have been reported missing from her husband Habibur Rehman’s house. Habibur Rehman has sold them to someone, said Noor Rehman, who does not know the whereabouts of his daughter and his two grandsons since 2004. A two-judge bench, consisting of Chief Justice Tariq Pervaz Khan and Justice Qaim Jan, heard the petition. Habibur Rehman said that he was unaware of his wife and childrens’ whereabouts. “After I married another girl, my first wife Noor Jehan with two children left her house of her own free will,” Habibur Rehman told the court.

NWFP Advocate General (AG) Pir Liaqat told the court that as per the court’s directives, the police raided the houses of Habibur Rehman and his relatives, but that they could not find the missing people.

Justice Khan constituted an inquiry committee, consisting of the station house officers (SHOs) of the Daudzai Police Station, Peshawar and Shabqadar Police Station, Charsadda, where Habibur Rehman is living. He directed police officials to search out the missing people in both districts of the province and to submit an inquiry report to the court on January 30.
