LAHORE: The Judicial Activism Panel said on Friday it had evolved a strategy for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui from the US custody.
In a statement issued here, panel chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddiqui said the Pakistani government failed to secure Ms Siddiqui’s release. He said he asked the government in 2008 to file a case against the US government in the International Court of Justice for Ms Siddiqui’s release. He called for her release on parole so that she could celebrate Eid with her family in Pakistan.
According to the statement, a panel meeting on Friday passed a resolution, suggesting the government to nominate Pakistani lawyers for Ms Siddiqui’s defence in the US court.
