Islamabad, 26-Jan-2026 (PPI): Amidst a commitment to expand bilateral cooperation, Pakistan and Myanmar have underscored the necessity of resolving all contentious issues through dialogue and diplomacy, officials confirmed following high-level discussions on Monday.

The mutual resolve was articulated during a joint press stakeout in Islamabad featuring Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his Myanmese counterpart, Than Swe, after delegation-level talks.

Both nations expressed a shared ambition to enhance collaboration across a wide spectrum of fields, including trade, the economy, science, and capacity building. The promotion of religious tourism, along with cultural and people-to-people exchanges, was also highlighted as a key area for development aimed at fostering shared prosperity.

Mr Dar described the discussions as "very productive and comprehensive," emphasising that the Myanmese Foreign Minister's visit signifies the importance both countries place on revitalising their relationship. He advocated for engagement leading to "sustained, structured and results-oriented initiatives."

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that Pakistan holds its cordial and friendly relations with Myanmar in high regard and is keen to augment cooperation in various mutually beneficial sectors. He also stressed the importance of further deepening academic linkages.

In his remarks, Foreign Minister Than Swe expressed his gratitude to the government of Pakistan for the warm hospitality extended to him during his official visit to the capital.

Earlier in the meeting, the delegations reviewed the full range of their bilateral ties and shared perspectives on regional and international peace and security. The two sides also consented to maintain close contact on matters of shared interest.
