Of women who shaped Pakistani society

Karachi: A compilation of interviews with women who played a role in shaping the Pakistani society was launched on the concluding day of the Karachi Literature Festival on Sunday.

The book ‘Who Am I?’ is an endeavour of revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s daughter Muneeza Hashmi, who introduced it during a session moderated by her actor-writer son Adeel Hashmi.

Muneeza said the book was close to her heart. “It pays tribute to all the women who fought for civil rights and freedom.”

Lawyer and human rights activist Asma Jahangir, who was one of the guests, said the women of her times became catalysts of change. “We fought for our rights and stood up to dictators. Now it is the job of the young girls and boys to take the message forward.”
