Nothing concrete done to get Aafia released: sister

By Rasheed Khalid

ISLAMABAD: Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, has expressed her regret and dismay as she alleged that nothing concrete had been done in defending the case of her ailing sister in the US court of law.

Fauzia was responding to questions at a press conference also addressed by Lord Nazir, British MP of Pakistani origin, and Amina Masud Janjua on the plight of disappeared persons at National Press Club here on Sunday. Fauzia said though Ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani offered Aafia a lawyer on the government expense, but they came to know about it only through media.

She said the time was running out and the judge made it clear in the last hearing that if no lawyer was appointed by Aug 10, the case would be heard in October without a defence lawyer.
