‘No negligence in rape case probe’

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer DIG Bilal Siddique Kamyana has reprimanded the police officers of the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cell for not completing the investigation of rape cases.

At a meeting of the GBV cell, the CCPO warned that he would take action if cases were found incomplete, adding he would convene a meeting of the cell every week.

Crime Record Office SP Zohaib Nasrullah, focal person inspector Fiza, divisional in charges, investigation officers and other officers attended the meeting.

He said the incidents of rape, harassment, violence and abuse against women are not acceptable in any case and police condemn all forms of abuse and violence against women. He said the Punjab police had launched Women Safety App to protect women from sexual crimes.

He said the victim support officers can play an important role to make the Anti-Women Harassment and Violence Cell active.
