Nine booked for ordering marriage of minor girl

SUKKUR, Jan 24: Sukkur police have booked nine persons on charges of holding a jirga in Moledino Mirbahar village located in the jurisdiction of Dadlo police limits near Pano Akil on Friday night. The jirga had ordered nikkah of a seven year old girl with a man to resolve a karo-kari dispute.

It may be mentioned here that ten days ago, one Pervaiz Mirbahar had divorced his wife after declaring her kari with Jinsar s/o Chanessar Mirbahar and since then he was pressuring Jinsar and his father to hold a jirga and reconcile the matter of karo-kari.

On Friday night, a jirga was organised in the village under the joint presidentship of Fateh Mohammad Mirbahar and Shahan Mirbahar. Both the parties, including Pervaiz Mirbahar and Jinsar Mirbahar and his father Chanessar Mirbahar along with dozens of Mirbahar community men, attended the jirga.

The Amins of the jirga, after hearing both the parties, declared Jinsar Mirbahar karo and slapped a fine of Rs50,000 on him out of which Rs 30,000 were paid on the spot, while the remaining amount was promised to be paid by next month. Besides this, the jirga ordered Jinsar Mirbahar to hand over his sister Shabana 7, to Pervaiz 25, and according to sources, Maulvi Rehmatullah Shaikh solemnised the nikkah and it was decided that Shabana would live with her parents till she reaches the age of 14.

However on information, Dadlo police registered a case against nine persons, including Fateh Mohammad Mirbahar, Shahan Mirbahar, Jinsar Mirbahar, Pervaiz Mirbahar, Chanesar Mirbahar, Maulvi Rehmatullah Shaikh and others, but no arrest was made till the filing of this report.
