Newly-wed girl strangled to death

KARACHI: A newly-wed female in her teens was strangled to death by her husband over the suspicion of illicit relations within the jurisdiction of Bilal Colony police station.

Ghazala, 19, married Sohail two months ago after she eloped with him as her family was against their marriage. On late Monday night, she was taken to ASH by her in laws where the doctors pronounced her dead on arrival. SHO Akram Qureshi said that the victim was killed by her husband as he suspected her of having illicit relations with other men.

Sohail had strangled her and then tried to cover up the murder by saying that she died of high fever. SHO Qureshi further said that Ghazla’s brother Shehzad immediately informed the police as he suspected Sohail who had been absconding since the murder. Later, police managed to arrest Sohail. Describing the incident, the SHO further said that the victim and accused were neighbours and married two months ago after a fling. After living in hiding for three days, their families agreed to their marriage and since then the victim was living in Sector 5-L, New Karachi Town with Sohail and his family members.

An FIR has been registered on Shehzad’s complaint.
