LAHORE, August 17 2005: A man raped a 14-year-old girl in Shalimar police station precinct on August 12. Police have registered a case on the girl’s mother’s complaint after a medical report confirmed the rape. Safia Batool lived in Basti Madhu Lal Hussain with her mother, Azra, who works as a housemaid in the locality for a living.

On August 12, when Azra left for work leaving Batool alone in the house, their neighbour Abbas forcibly entered the house. He assaulted and raped Safia at gunpoint and fled. Neighbours found Batool lying naked and unconscious in the house and they took her to Shalimar Hospital where her condition is out of danger.

Shalimar police registered a case on the complaint of Azra after doctors confirmed that Batool was raped. Inspector Riaz Ali, who is investigating the case, said that police were making raids in search of Abbas and hoped he would be caught in the next 48 hours.
