Need for Islamic media urged

PESHAWAR, April 10, 2005: Speakers at the launching ceremony of monthly magazine “Nida-ul-Islam” stressed the need of a powerful Islamic media not only to counter the negative propaganda of western media but also to portray a ‘positive’ image of Islam.

“The Western media has not only been misleading the world community regarding Muslims and Islam but also spoiling the character of our youth through vulgar and immoral contents,” said the provincial information minister Asif Iqbal Dawoodzai while addressing the ceremony held here Saturday at Peshawar Press Club.

He said there must an alternate source of information for the world community in general and for the Muslims in particular so that they could not be misled. In this connection, he said, the Organization of Islamic Conference could play an important role, which the organization had not played so far, he regretted.

He also hailed the efforts of the administration of the monthly “Nida-ul-Islam” and termed it a positive step. He said it would definitely contribute much to Islamic journalism.

The chief editor of the magazine Maqsood Ahmad Salfi said the basic motive behind the launching of the magazine was to portray the real image of Islam to the world.

He said the Muslim Ummah had been faced with severe situations. “The anti-Islamic forces have been striving hard to malign the religion of peace and fraternity — Islam,” he said. Member of National Assembly Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, central.
