Miscreants torch another girls school
MINGORA: Miscreants torched another girls’ school in Sherpalam area in the restive Swat valley late Tuesday. It was the second incident of its kind in the area in the recent past as only three days earlier the miscreants had set on fire a girls’ high school in Chapriyal area.
Sources said that unidentified miscreants sneaked into the Girls Primary School Sharpalam in Matta Tehsil late in the night and set it on fire. They said all the furniture and record of the school were gutted and the building was damaged.
Earlier, the militants attacked a security checkpoint in Khwazakhela area and the exchange of fire continued for over three hours. However, no casualty was reported in the incident. The security forces also targeted the suspected hideouts of the militants with light artillery.
Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad defused an 18-kg bomb in the Deray area of Kabal Tehsil. The bomb was planted on the Matta-Mingora Road. The forces also defused a suicide jacket by detonating it in the Kanju Township area. The jacket was recovered from the fields during a search operation a few days ago. The militants have intensified their activities recently, panicking the people of the area.
