GUJRANWALA: An underage maid who was allegedly beaten and burnt by her employers one week ago succumbed to her wounds on Friday at the Hafizabad District Headquarters Hospital.
The police arrested the employer, Shahzad Khokhar, who is the land manager with the Gujranwala Municipal Corporation.

The police said Khokhar had hired eight-year-old Beenish, of Hafizabad, as domestic help. Last week, he along with his wife beat and burnt her when she could not make bread. He took Beenish to her parents, saying she had fallen on the gas stove. Her parents got her admitted to the hospital where she breathed her last on Friday.
Doctors said her 70 per cent of the body was burnt.
Her death sparked anger among the family and local residents who chanted slogans against the employer.

The Civil Lines police registered a case against the couple.
The police said they had already registered a case against accused on the day of occurrence on the report of Beenish’s father, Maqsood and now converted the case into a murder case. Police arrested Khokhar while his wife was at large.
