SHIKARPUR: A man doused his wife, mother of nine, in kerosene and set her on fire when she was asleep at home in Mohalla Qilla Qafla here on Monday morning.
Reports said that Ms Fehmida suffered 50 per cent burns after her husband Mir Mohammad Phulpoto set her on fire over a dispute over matrimonial matters between the accused and parents of his wife.
According to Fehmida’s relatives, the accused faced a case in court filed by his wife’s parents and he was trying to develop pressure on them to withdraw it.
The injured woman was brought to civil hospital Shikarpur where doctors said more than 50 per cent of her body was burnt.
Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Agha Sirajuddin Durrani visited the hospital after the incident and ordered to shift the injured to Karachi immediately for her proper treatment at burns ward.
He announced that the government would afford expenses for her treatment. The minister ordered police to register FIR against the accused and take action against him.
Police registered a case against Mir Mohammad Phulpoto on a complaint lodged by the woman’s bother Ahsan Ali Moriani and arrested him.
