Man sentenced to 25 years in prison for axing wife

RAWALPINDI, May 30: An additional district and sessions judge here on Friday sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for axing his wife to death in Kahuta earlier this year.

Judge Rana Mohammad Ali also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict, Khushi Mohammad, who murdered his wife, Sabiha Bibi, over the suspicion of her having a “loose” character. In case of non-payment of the fine amount, the convict will have to undergo six months extra imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, the convict killed his wife in the area of Kahuta police on January 2 with an axe. The police arrested Khushi Mohammad and recovered the weapon on the complaint of his in-laws.

Meanwhile, a special judicial magistrate along with doctors of District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital and area police exhumed the body of a woman who died in mysterious circumstances in a far-off village of Rawalpindi shortly after her marriage.

Judicial magistrate Ahmed Masood Janjua along with Dr Irfan and Dr Masooma of DHQ hospital and the Chontra police exhumed the body of Kishwar Rani in Saroba village on the application of her mother, Sughran Bibi.

Specimen from different part of Kishwar’s body were taken and sent to a laboratory for medical examination to determine the cause of death.

According to the complainant, her daughter was married to Nadeem of Saroba village few months ago and she was found dead in the house of her husband on May 9.

Sughran Bibi said the in-laws of her daughter buried Kishwar after informing her parents. In her complaint, she said she was sceptical about the cause of her daughter’s death and wanted exhumation of the body.

In another case, a bailiff appointed by a district and sessions judge raided the house of a man and recovered his two- year-old son on the complaint of the mother of the boy.

The bailiff, Mahboob Awan, along with the area police raided the house of Yasir Aziz in Gorakhpur village near Adiala jail and recovered his son, Mohammad Ahsan, on the complaint of Zahra Yusuf, the boy’s mother.

Mr Awan handed over the boy to his mother who, in her application to the judge, alleged that her husband ousted her from his house over a domestic dispute and snatched her son.

The judge, Attaullah Kosar, directed both parents to appear in the court on June 7 for the settlement of the custody dispute.
