Man kills wife, daughter and niece for ‘honour’

KARACHI: In an apparent incident of honour killing, a man shot dead his wife, daughter and niece in Surjani Town on Sunday morning, police said.

The police said that the incident occurred at around 6am when the man, Abdul Rasheed, killed his wife, Wazeeran, 40, daughter Asma, 16, and niece Aafia, 18, in his house in Abdul Rahim Goth in the remit of the Surjani Town police station.

The suspect, who owns a cattle pen and is also engaged in the transport business, used a shotgun to kill his family.

The police said that the situation at the crime scene suggested that the victims were awake at the time of the incident, despite it being early in the morning.

On the basis of their initial investigations, the police described the murders as an incident of honour killing, as it was said that the suspect had suspicions about the character of his wife and the two teenaged girls.

The Surjani Town SHO said that in view of the circumstances the incident seemed to be an honour killing. “It is not yet clear as to whom the man suspected [of having a bad character].”

Following the incident, police reached the scene and shifted the bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police said that after killing the woman and the two girls, the suspect managed to escape.
