A mother of three was allegedly shot dead by her brother in the name of “honour” at 339/EB village in Arifwala tehsil on Monday night.
As per police sources, the victim, Rukhsana Wattoo, was preparing dinner for her children when her brother Abu Sufiyan stormed into the kitchen and opened fire.
As a result, Rukhsana sustained two bullets and died instantly, while the assailant, along with his accomplices, Imran alias Bubloo and an unidentified man, fled the scene on a motorcycle.
The incident was reported to the police by a neighbour, Rahmat Ullah.
The police arrived at the scene and collected forensic evidence.
Rukhsana’s body was later shifted to the Arifwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, for a postmortem examination.
Arifwala Saddar police SHO Abid Mohar says the victim’s husband, Waseem, had been doing a job in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the last four years, while she was living in the village, with her three children.
About the motive of the murder, he said that Rukhsana’s brother, the suspect, had been sent a video clip by someone, allegedly showing her in a compromising position with a man.
The SHO says that it appears to be a case of “honour” killing, adding that further investigation is under way.
A murder FIR has been registered against the three suspects, he said
