Man kills daughter for ‘honour’

LODHRAN: A man allegedly took the life of his 14-year-old daughter in the name of honour on Wednesday.

The accused was apprehended by the police following a complaint filed by the maternal grandfather of the victim.

The body was transferred to the Lodhran DHQ Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said Muhammad Shafiq, a resident of Pull Doran, had stated in his complaint that his daughter, Sumaira Bibi, was married about 15 years ago to the suspect, Ajmal.

The couple had three daughters and a son with the victim, Aliza, being the eldest and a seventh-grade student.

The complainant stated that a few years ago, Ajmal had employed Shiraz, a resident of Bahawalpur, to work in his home for about two years.

However, the employer suspected a relationship between Shiraz and his daughter.

Consequently, Shiraz was dismissed from the job.

During Tuesday night, Shafiq received a phone call from his grandson Mukhtar Ahmed, informing him of Aliza’s sudden demise, despite her being in good health.

Upon arrival in the morning, he discovered that the girl had already been bathed and shrouded, raising suspicions.

When questioned about the cause of death, Ajmal failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and, along with his mother, resorted to verbal abuse.

The police arrested Ajmal and registered a case.
