Man in police remand for selling wife

SUKKUR, Nov 28: The civil judge of Ubauro on Friday granted seven-day police remand of Mohammad Arshad Arain, accused of trying to sell his wife whom he had married of free will four months ago.

Informed sources said that one Arain of Sadiqabad had married Shazia Khawaja of Multan and two days back he brought her to Mureed Shakh near Ubauro on the pretext of attending a marriage ceremony.

Sources on Thursday said that Arain sold his wife to Nawab Kosh and Aslam Dhondho for Rs300,000, and the moment Shazia came to know of the deal, she fled to Kambhra police station near Ubauro and lodged a case against her husband, Nawab Kosh and Aslam Dhondho. Police conducted a raid and arrested Arain but others escaped.

On Friday, police produced Shazia and Arain in the court of civil judge Ubauro Aijaz Rabbani. Shazia, in her statement said that she had married Arshad Arain of her free will some four months back and two days ago the accused brought her to Mureed Shakh and tried to sell her to Nawab Kosh and Aslam Dhondho for Rs300,00.

When she stated that she wanted to go back to her parents, the court ordered the police to hand her over to her mother Mst Zainab, who was also present in the court room.

The court also ordered the police to escort both mother and daughter to Multan in tight security.
