BAHAWALPUR: A court in Lodhran awarded 25-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs1m to a man for kidnap and rape of a girl at Basti Mullanwali near Sumra village of Lodhran about seven years ago.

A 17-year-old girl went to the fields to bring fodder for animals on Oct 26, 2015, from where convict Muhammad Abbas along with his unidentified accomplice abducted her. Abbas took her in the nearby cotton fields where he raped her at gunpoint.

The Lodhran City Police Station had registered a case on the complaint of the survivor’s mother and arrested Abbas.

On Thursday, the court sentenced him to 25-year imprisonment and imposed an Rs1m fine on him, which would be paid to the survivor.
