A man, along with his second wife and two sisters-in-law, allegedly tortured and killed his first wife at Ward No. 4, Qaboola, Arifwala tehsil, on Thursday.

Qaboola police have registered a murder case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code against main suspect Shaukat Islam alias Hyder Shah, his second wife Shagufta, and two other women Mah Noor and Sobia. The case was lodged by Muhammad Nadeem, elder brother of the deceased, Samina.

According to police, Shaukat had married Samina in 2005 and later took Shagufta as his second wife. Both women were living under the same roof in a two-storey house. Nadeem told police that Samina had sour relations with Shaukat and Shagufta and was frequently subjected to domestic abuse.

Qaboola Station House Officer Abid Ashiq said Shaukat and his second wife, Shagufta, were arrested. Police also recovered the pestle allegedly used in the torture and murder. The violence was the result of an argument over the television as Shagufta wanted to watch a programme, which led to a confrontation when Samina turned it off.
