Man allegedly sets wife on fire

KURIANWALA: A man reportedly burnt alive his wife after pouring petrol over her due to a domestic dispute.

Police took the body into custody and registered a case against the husband of the deceased and two other suspects.

The complainant Maqbool Ahmed, a farmer and resident of Fatehpur, informed the police that his daughter Musarat Bibi was married eight years ago to Iqbal Hussain, a resident of Chak No. 137GB.

The couple had two daughters aged seven and five years.

The complainant stated that Iqbal Hussain often beat up his wife for no reason.

On November 17, he thrashed Musarat Bibi while she was cooking in the yard of the house. He along with his friends Abbas and ‘Adnan poured a bottle of petrol on the victim and set her on fire. The complainant said Abbas was carrying the bottle filled with petrol.

All the three suspects escaped from the spot after the incident. “When my daughter started screaming, I and other villagers gathered at the spot and tried to put out the fire by covering her with a blanket,” the complainant said.

He said his daughter was completely burnt. She was rushed to Allied Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the morning.

He alleged that Iqbal Hussain, along with his friends, had killed his daughter by setting her on fire due to a fight.

The police handed over the body to the heirs after postmortem and registered a case under Sections 302 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code. A search for the suspects nominated in the complaint was also launched by the local police.

Cases of domestic violence are rampant in Punjab.

In August, a man allegedly tortured his wife and killed her for being nulliparous in the city in Samundari.

Reportedly, the alleged murderer in connivance of his father and mother poisoned his wife after beating her.

According to the police report, in the case filed by Asghar Ali, a resident of 582 GB, states that the 20-year-old woman identified as Yasmeen got married to Irfan Hussain, a resident of 474 GB, four years ago. The couple did not have any child, due to which the deranged suspect would often torture his wife.

The complainant, who was the victim’s father, added that the suspect used to quarrel with the victim and argue that he will remarry to have a child. The suspect’s wife did not allow him to remarry and the couple would often fight over the matter.

Meanwhile, the suspect Irfan along with his father Muhammad Hussain and mother Sardaran Bibi tortured the complainant’s daughter.

On the day of the incident, the suspect along with his parents held the victim against her will and allegedly poisoned her.
