Maidservant shows torture marks to court

A maidservant, who was allegedly detained by her employer in DHA area, told the Sindh High Court that she was tortured by her employer’s family during “detention”.

The court was hearing the petition of Ms Rasheeda Bibi who moved the court against the alleged detention of her daughter, submitting that her daughter was not being allowed to meet her and she was being tortured and kept in inhuman conditions.

The petitioner, who is a resident of Korangi, submitted that her daughter Ms. Razia had been working at the bungalow of Ms. Zafreen Irfan situated on Khayaban-e-Bilal, DHA Phase-VI for the last 17 years. She alleged that her daughter’s employer also got her forcibly married and she expressed apprehension about her life.

The SHC had ordered SHO Darakhshan to produce the detainee. As the matter was taken up by SHC’s single bench comprising Justice Munib Ahmed Khan, Ms. Razia was produced before SHC by her mother who informed the court that she was recovered from near the house of her employer in an injured condition on Wednesday evening.

Ms. Razia alleged that she was tortured by her lady employer Ms. Zafreen and her son during detention and she was removed at some unidentified place on Wednesday by four armed persons. She also showed her injuries to the court and her hair that were cut from different places.

The court directed the SHO Darakhshan to record the statement of the abductee and conduct her medical examination and submit report by November 19.
