RAWALPINDI: The Airport police obtained on Wednesday three days physical custody of a sub-inspector (SI) after he was arrested in connection with a false case registered against a man who married a woman of his choice.
Magistrate Malik Azmatullah Awan gave three days physical remand of the accused SI, Malik Bashir, for allegedly registering a false case against Fazal Abbas and torturing his brother-in-law. Fazal married Kalsoom Rehman Baloch without her parents’ consent.
However, Fazal’s brother-in-law Shafiq Dogar was picked by the Airport police to locate the couple and was tortured in the lock-up.
Later on the intervention of the Lahore High Court, the police cleared Fazal and his family in the abduction case registered on the complaint of Rehman, brother of Kalsoom.
Separately, an additional district and sessions judge here on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murder but acquitted another after the prosecution could not bring out enough evidence against him.
Judge Abdul Rehman Awan handed down life term to Mohammad Imran for killing Baqir Raza in 2004 over a fight between children in the limits of Westridge police. The court, however, acquitted Talal Ahmed of the charges and ordered his release if he was not wanted in any other criminal case.
