LHC takes notice of attempted rape

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday sought a report from the Rahim Yar Khan district and sessions judge about an incident of an attempted rape and subsequent burning of a 13-year-old girl.

The LHC ordered the judge to probe the matter and submit a detailed report, within a week, regarding the steps taken by the local police along with his own comments.

The father of the victim, a resident of Dadla Shaheed Colony in Ahmedpur Lama, told police that his daughter helped her mother stitch people’s clothes.

On the day of the incident, she went to see her friend in the neighbourhood. As the girl reached there, her friend’s brother opened the door and told her to wait as his sister was away. He said while his daughter was waiting for the friend, her brother tried to rape her.

She started shouting for help after which he drenched her in kerosene oil and set her on fire. He then fled the scene. Some neighbours who heard her screams rushed to the victim’s house and informed her parents. She was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, from where she was sent to Rahim Yar Khan Shaikh Zayed Hospital. Doctors said her condition was critical. Ahmadpur Lama police have registered a case against the suspect and started investigations.
