LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) complaint cell has directed district & sessions judge, Lahore (D&SJ) to direct the city police chief to recover 6-year-old Maria.
According to the details of the case, two daughters of Muhammad Yahya, Mariyam, 2, and Maria, 6, went missing while playing in the street. The matter was reported to Mughalpura police. After nine days of their kidnapping, body of Mariyam was found floating in BRB Canal and the other girl was still missing.
The D&SJ is ordered to issue directions to the CCPO and the inquiry officer (IO) for a fair investigation and to file report within the stipulated period in order to enable the court to do complete justice. The D&SJ being ex-officio Justice of Peace is also directed to issue any other direction to police authorities as he may deem fit, remaining within the ambit of law.
The LHC had taken notice on a news report that police found a body of a two-year-old kidnapped girl floating in BRB Canal. The LHC directed the D&SJ to look into the mater and submit a detailed report about the steps taken by the local police along with his own comments.
The D&SJ reported that the case of abduction of the two girls was registered on the complaint of their father. The complainant nominated six accused including his close relatives. Four accused obtained interim pre-arrest bail while two are yet to be arrested.
The D&SJ has asked the IO to make concrete, fruitful and result-oriented efforts for the arrestof the remaining accused and recover Maria.
