LHC allows woman to live with husband

LAHORE: Justice Khwaja Farooq Saeed of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday allowed a woman to reside with her husband after recovering her from her brothers’ custody.

The woman appeared before the court and submitted that she wanted to live with her husband, following which the judge ruled that she was sui juris and had married the petitioner.

Petitioner Javed Iqbal of Thokar Niaz Baig submitted that he had married Naziran on February 2, 2000. He said that on June 28, his brother-in-law, Muhammad Bashir, took Naziran to his (Bashir’s) house for a few days, but did not allow her to return.

He claimed that on July 18, he went to his in-laws’ house to take Naziran back, but Bashir took him to his uncle’s house in Okara, saying that she was living there. He said that a large number of people present there had tried to force him to divorce Naziran, but he refused to do so, following which they forcefully got his wife’s thumb impression on a blank paper and told him to leave. He submitted that Bashir and Rafiq had illegally detained Naziran, and that she should be allowed to live with him.
