Lady doctor seeks protection
NAWABSHAH: The clout combined with greed has made the life of a lady doctor of the People’s Medical College Hospital intolerable, forcing her to turn to the administration for protection.
Dr Erum Jamali, Registrar Gynaecology Ward, PMCH, told journalists at the A-Section police station that she tied the knot with an already married colleague Dr Mustafa Jamali last year with an understanding that he’d live with his second wife.
Soon after, Dr Mustafa Jamali began mistreating, deprived her of monthly salary and stopped her from meeting mother and other relatives, she alleged.
“My husband began thrashing when I protested at the presence of his first wife in my home on Sunday,” she said and added: “He tried to strangle me and on resistance hit the index finger and nose with an iron rod and threatened to deface me with acid and snatched the cell phone when I warned him of police.”
She and her mother went to the A-Section police station but the SHO refused to register an FIR on which an application was submitted at the Women Crisis Centre.
“He opened fire with a gun but missed the target when I returned home,” Dr Erum said and added that police registered an FIR on the intervention of Women Crisis Centre’s officials.
Dr Erum feared being killed as the house they lived in, belongs to her.
SPO Aijaz Tareen told journalists that police never refused registering her case and even brought Dr Mustafa Jamali to the police station but took him back to the hospital on the complain of cardiac pain.
However, doctors gave him a clean bill of health but on his colleagues’ insistence Dr Mustafa Jamali was left in the CCU while the police were waiting for Dr Erum’s report to be able to proceed further, said the SPO.
