SUKKUR: The laboratory report, issued by Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College, Sukkur, two days ago, has confirmed rape in the case of one of the two sisters in Ghotki.
The women had claimed that they were sexually assaulted by officials of the Khambra police station. Both sisters were produced before the court of Daharki’s civil judge where they recorded their statements.
On October 13, two sisters, N*, 18, and S*, 16, had told reporters that the Khambhra police station SHO, Abdullah Awan, and constables, Abdul Razzaq Malik and Arbelo Mochi, had raided their house and taken them away. They had alleged that the SHO had kept them detained at different places where all three officials used to subject them to rape.
Taking notice of the allegations, the Ghotki SSP had ordered the registration of an FIR against the officials, which was registered against them at Khambhra police station and the police had arrested the accused. The SHO and police constables were produced in the court of a civil judge, who after hearing the case, had granted a five-day remand of the accused in police custody.
Meanwhile, the accused had denied the charges and alleged that both girls were members of a gang of kidnappers who used these girls to entice their victims to meet them at certain places from where they kidnapped them. SHO Awan had claimed that the police had rescued a man, identified as Sanaullah Gondal, who had been kidnapped on September 4. According to Awan, the victim had identified both girls and said that they used to cook food for him and the kidnappers.
Samples, taken from both girls, were sent for tests to the chemical laboratory at Ghulam Muhammad Medical College, Sukkur. The report, issued on October 26, confirmed that S* was sexually assaulted while the report of N* was negative.
Ubauro police station SHO Syed Perwez Shah told The Express Tribune that, based on the results of the laboratory tests, all three police officials had been found guilty of keeping the girls in captivity and raping one of them. He added that the officials had been challaned in court and are now serving as under-trial prisoners in Ghotki district jail.
