SUKKUR: The life of a three-year-old girl was spared, perhaps because of the awareness making way into the conscience of people who for ages followed only what their customs and traditions had taught them.

Reportedly, a jirga was held late on Sunday night in village Imam Bux Gabole near Khanpur Mahar district Ghotki to settle a dispute of karo-kari between Abdul Waheed Gabole and Abdul Qadeer Gabole, headed by Imam Bux Gabole and strictly restricted to a few people to avoid media coverage.

It was reported that three months back Abdul Waheed Gabole divorced his wife Gul Bibi and sent her to the parent’s home for being kari with Abdul Qadeer Gabole.

The dispute created a bad blood between the two groups of Gabole community while Abdul Waheed Gabole kept pressurising his rival to resolve the dispute through a jirga.

Finally, a jirga was held which after hearing both the parties imposed a fine of Rs170,000 on Abdul Qadeer Gabole and further ordered to marry his three-year-old daughter with eight-year-old Rasheed son of Abdul Waheed Gabole.

Sources said that the man accepted to pay the fine but refused to give his daughter in marriage which irked Imam Bux Gabole who hurled threats for going against jirga decision.

Abdul Qadeer Gabole told journalists about the decision on Monday and consequent threats he received from the head of jirga.

The news reached to DPO Ghotki who ordered the SHO Adilpur Sikandar Chang to report him within 24 hours after conducting a thorough probe into the matter.
