he heirs of a slain youth, Mohsin, staged a protest Tuesday outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC), chanted slogans against the police, and demanded stern action against his murder(s). Seventeen-year-old Mohsin was gunned down Sunday on the pretext of Karo-Kari (honour killing). He was allegedly killed by the father of his girlfriend, Bibi. The incident took place in Hassan Brohi Goth, within the precincts of the Surjani Town Police Station.
On Tuesday, scores of protestors, mostly women, brought his body to the press club and demonstrated for justice.
Supervisory Police Officer Surjani Town Altaf Hussain said that initial investigations revealed that 17-year-old Bibi, who was injured in Sunday’s attack, had been married off a few months ago to a man named Nazar Hussain. Before her wedding, however, she had been going out with Mohsin.
On Saturday night, Bibi fled her husband’s house, and went to Mohsin. Hussain then went to Bibi’s father, Abdul Rehman Brohi, and told him the entire story.
Brohi flared up, went to Mohsin’s house, shot and killed him, and injured his daughter before fleeing.
Mohsin was a labourer by profession, and a case was reported at the police station concerned on the complaint of his father.
SPO Hussain said that the family had not buried Mohsin yet, but had taken his body to the KPC for the protest on Tuesday. He had then gone to the press club, spoken to Mohsin’s relatives, and assured them that the culprit would be arrested, the SPO said.
