In-laws accused of burning woman

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: A newly-wed woman was allegedly burnt by her in-laws at G-11/3 on Wednesday, the police said. The victim, Noreen Bibi, 26, was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) by her mother Taj Bibi.

“The victim received more than 65 per cent burn injuries and is in critical condition,” said a doctor, on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, Taj Bibi lodged an FIR with the Golra police stating that on Wednesday she came from Mansehra to meet her daughter. When she reached at the house of her daughter’s husband, Rashid Shah, she saw her daughter burning in flames due to which she was also crying. Though, her daughter’s father-in-law was present there, he remained indifferent, she alleged.

She said when the incident occurred, Rashid Shah was not present in the house. Taj Bibi held the father-in-law responsible for the incident. The police said the motive behind the incident seemed to be an old enmity.

The police said Noreen was married to Rashid two or three months ago and since the day of marriage, the couple used to quarrel with each other on petty domestic issue. The police, after registering the case, is waiting for the victim’s statement.
