Important to empower women, bring them into mainstream of development: Governor

Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman has said that it is important to empower women and bring them into the mainstream of development.

Talking to a delegation of newly elected body of Faisalabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FWCCI) led by President FWCCI Rubina Amjad who called on him at Governor House Lahore on Thursday, he said that our women are working shoulder to shoulder in men in all walks of life and proving their mettle.

Balighur Rehman said that Women Chambers are providing employment opportunities to lakhs of women.

He said that Women Chambers should strengthen the links with technical education institutions and industry. He further said that women should be represented in every sector and it is very important to include in the decision making process.

He said that promotion of business activities in the country is vital to boost the economy.

Governor Punjab said women fair representation is the government departments is very important.

He said that he has sent back a bill to the assembly because there was no woman member in its board according to the fair representation of women law. He said that he suggested that at least one woman should be included in the board.

Governor Punjab said that a consortium has been formed in universities for the empowerment and education of women.

The delegation informed the Governor of Punjab about the problems faced by the women’s chambers. Muhammad Balighur Rehman assured the delegation of all possible cooperation to solve the problems faced by them.

The delegation included Tasgira Tajmal, Abiaha Ahmed, Qaratainul Amin, Thobia Aqeel, Samia Tahir, Huma Farrukh, Rukhsana Kausar, Sadaf Shawkat, Shahida Aftab, Tahmina Pasha, Nimra Rahim, Aqsi Riaz and Shanza Yusuf.
