Importance of women empowerment discussed

Provincial Secretary for Women Development Irum Bukhari has said that encouragement of women for participation in the national development and protection of their rights is utmost essential. She was addressing the meeting of First Punjab Women Empowerment Working Group held under the aegis of Women Development Department Punjab at GOR-I on Monday.

DFID, Dawood Saqlain of Action Aid, Fareeda Khan of ILO, Fouzia Waqar of Shirkatgah, Fatima Syed and Hammad Khan of UN Women, Sabahat Ambreen of Unices, Aima Mahmood of Working Women Organisation, Dr Babar Alam of WHO, Dr Jamil of UNFPA, Bushra Khalid and Salman Abid of WISE attended the meeting.

Irum Bukhari gave a detailed briefing about the aims and objectives and the need for constitution of Women Empowerment Working Group and Women Empowerment Package-2012. She said that it is the right of every woman to be aware of aims and objectives of Women Package and its benefits. She said that the women cannot take active part in the socio-economic development with confidence without awareness about the governmental steps taken for their protection and rights. Provincial Secretary stressed the need for monitoring and implementation on the awareness campaign for women. She also lauded the role of NGOs and media.
