Husband, brother-in-law turn out to be murderers

BAHAWALPUR: Police on Wednesday arrested a man, his brother and a friend after they were found guilty of killing the former’s wife, brother-in-law and mother-in-law two weeks ago, District Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik said on Wednesday.
Police said they recovered three pistols from those arrested. They said the pistols had been used in the murders.
Addressing a press conference at his office, the DPO said that Misbah Bibi had married Muhammad Faheem a year ago. He said after their marriage, her brothe-in-law, Muhammad Umar had developed interest in her.
When she turned him down, he said, Umar accused her of cheating on her husband.
The DPO said that Umar provoked Faheem, who had started beating his wife often.
The DPO said Misbah Bibi left the house and started living in her parents’ house in Chak 114/DB.
On December 31, 2013, he said, Faheem, Umar and his friend Hafiz Zaheer entered Misbah Bibi’s parents’ house in the night by scaling a wall.
They had tied Misbah Bibi, her mother Jameela Bibi and her brother Waheed Anjum in a room with ropes and had shot them all in the head.
The assailants had fled when some neighbours gathered in front of the house on hearing gunshots.
The DPO said that police were informed and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.
He said a police team, supervised by Yazman DSP Azizullah Khan, had started investigation. Saddar SHO Malik Abdul Rasheed Channar and ASI Sajjad Leghari were in the team.
He said investigations had led the police to the three men, who, they said, had confessed to the crime. Police said another suspect, Muhammad Luqman, who is said to have helped the assailants, was at large. Police were looking for him.
An FIR was registered on the complaint of Misbah’s father, Muhammad Rafique, who said that she was expecting. He said his son-in-law would often make threatening calls to them. He said he was out of town when the incident happened.
