Humiliating womenfolk

THE semi-naked public parade of three women in Kasur, on a charge of prostitution, as reported by your newspaper recently, is a heinous crime that needs to be condemned by all.

Prostitutes or not, women are citizens of the state of Pakistan and their right to integrity is protected under the Constitution. Punishing for crimes is the just prerogative of courts only.

Every time citizens take the law into their hand, the state gets weaker. Every day a woman or man or child is disgraced in the name of honour, without proof, in this land of the pure, the ideology of Islam gets mutilated.

Every incident of street justice shall be a moment of shame for the government and the state.

A high-level investigation is required that fulfils all requirements of law and justice.
