‘Honour’ killing: Man strangles daughter to death

SAHIWAL: A man strangled her newly wed daughter to death for demanding divorce from her husband in Thatta Bahadur Singh Village, Sahiwal on Monday.

Police said Iram Shahzad married Hifazat Ali a few months back.

However, after few days, differences emerged between the couple and she returned to her parents’ home.

When her husband came to take her back, she refused to go and demanded divorce from him. This enraged her father Hakim Ali and he strangled her to death.

Police managed to arrest Hakim Ali and registered a case against him.

Meanwhile, a girl committed suicide over a family dispute in Batala Colony police limits in Faisalabad.

A police official said 14-year-old Saima had an argument with her parents over a family matter. He added in sheer frustration, she hanged herself and ended her life.

At least two persons were killed in a road accident near Faisal Garden, Faisalabad. A speedy car hit a motorcycle killing two persons on the spot. The deceased were identified as Kaneez Fatima and Shah Muhammad.

In yet another incident, robbers killed a fruit-seller on resistance in Faisalabad. Police said Iftikhar Hussain, 50, resident of Jhang, was shot dead by unidentified armed men, while he resisted a robbery bid.

Similarly, two outlaws snatched a motorbike from a man in Chak Kamal. They also deprived him of his valuables and fled the scene.
