Hindu woman’s kidnappers remanded till 23rd

Karachi: Judicial Magistrate (South-IV) Hatim Aziz Solangi on Friday allowed physical remand of seven alleged robbers and kidnappers in the kidnapping case of Geeta Sohani and directed the Boating Basin police to produce the accused at the court on August 23.

The suspects — Aslam Jan, Hasan Ali alias Ali Hassan, Ramazan, Sohail Ahmed alias Zahid Baloch, Adnan, Ashfaq and Ashraf — had kidnapped Sohani, a Hindu woman and resident of Clifton, on August 5. The men then forced at gunpoint to issue a cheque of Rs10 million in their name.

The cheque was then cashed at a bank by two of the kidnappers, who pretended to be working at Sohani’s household as domestic staff. The alleged kidnappers also looted $200 and other valuables from her apartment in the Star Apartment Building located in Clifton.

The case against the kidnappers was registered at the Boating Basin police station, whose personnel later arrested all the accused.

Sohani is the complaint in this case. The court on Friday allowed the police to conduct the investigations till August 23.
