Heinous act: Woman accuses five men of rape, imprisonment over three weeks

HARIPUR:A married woman was abducted and allegedly gang rapped for more than three weeks by five people, the police said on Monday.

Sub-inspector Asghar Khan, incharge of investigations at Battal police station, and the Haripur police confirmed recovering twenty seven-year-old Rehana Bibi* during a joint operation from a rented house in Abrar Colony on Sunday.

Bibi recorded her statement in the court of a judicial magistrate under Section 164 Code of Criminal Procedure. She stated she has been married to Hasan Gul, a resident of Shohal Balimang, Mansehra, for six years. Gul is a daily wager and is often away from home for weeks, added Bibi.

During his absence, she alleged Gul’s cousin Nawaz started visiting her home and harassing her. “He followed me whenever I left the house and tried to entice me for negative purposes.”

Bibi claims on April 30 she was collecting firewood when Nawaz overpowered her and sexually assaulted her.

While recording her statement, Bibi further accused Nawaz and his friends Amraiz, Suleman, Aurangzeb and Niaz of whisking her away in a car to Abrar Colony, Haripur. She maintains she was held there for three weeks, over which period she was repeatedly raped.

The accused kept her chained and would physically assault her whenever she cried for help.

In response to a question, Asghar said Bibi underwent a medical examination on the orders of a Mansehra court, but it has not been established as yet whether Bibi was raped or is making false accusations.

Two of the five accused have been arrested while the remaining are still at large, added the sub-inspector. Bibi was handed over to her brother Waqar Ahmed as she refused to go with her husband, blaming him for not making any efforts to recover her.
