Grade XI student ‘raped’ in Umerkot

HYDERABAD: A student of grade IX was allegedly raped in Umerkot district on Saturday night. Although the family of the alleged survivor filed a complaint at the local police station on Sunday, they claimed the police were deliberately not arresting the two suspects.

According to the complainant, the victim’s uncle, Ali Hassan Bajeer and Faiz Muhammad Bajeer had climbed the wall of their house and raped the girl, who had been asleep.

The family, joined by local leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, held a protest demonstration outside the press club on Sunday, demanding the police arrest the two suspects and blaming the law enforcers for the delay.

They also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of increasing incidents of rape in the province.

Meanwhile, the girl was referred to the district headquarters hospital for a medical examination.

Separately, the police claimed to have arrested two of three suspects who had allegedly raped a woman in Sujawal on Saturday.

DSP Jati Ghulam Muhammad Channa claimed that Vikio Jatt and Ghulam Ali Jatt have been arrested but their third accomplice, Karo Jatt, was still at large.

The FIR was lodged on behalf of the victim’s father at Marho Bula Khan police station. He had stated that the suspects had held his family hostage at gunpoint and raped his daughter at their residence in Wazir Jatt village.
