Karachi- The government should take appropriate measures to get Dr Aafia Siddiqui released from US detention, Human Rights Network (HRN) Karachi chapter President Intikhab Alam Soori has said.
In a press release issued Sunday, HRN office bearers expressed concern over the apathetic attitude of the government in this regard and said that the delay in the release of Dr Aafia and her children was due to the lukewarm response of the Pakistani government.
“She is not being provided with proper medical treatment. As result, there is a grave threat to her life in US custody and the government of Pakistan would also be responsible for that,” they said.
The HRN called upon the government to exhaust all diplomatic channels and sources for the release Dr Aafia. They said that the non-provision of medical facilities to her was a violation of the charter of human rights. The detention of her innocent children was also a sheer violation of human rights. They called upon political and religious parties, the media, representatives of people in the parliament and civil society to play their role for the release Dr Aafia.
