‘Government committed to protecting constitutional rights of women’
HYDERABAD: The Sindh Minister for Women Development Tauqeer Fatima has said that PPP led government is committed to protecting constitutional rights of women, adding that different forums are being introduced to get feedback for implementation on laws in this regard.
She expressed her views, while addressing a seminar on ‘Violence against Women’ organised by the Management of Institute of Modern Science and Arts (MIMSA), in Qasimabad, Hyderabad, in collaboration with Women Development Department here on Sunday.
Keeping in view the violence against women as practice in male dominated society, she said that provincial government is establishing women complaint centres at the district headquarters, though such complaint centres have already been established by the federal government.
Inaugurating a complaint centre in Qasimabad she appealed to the members of civil society to come forward and make this effort a success and help redress the problems of women who need support of all.
However, she said that education in women would play vital role, as it helps develop sense of realisation of rights and education enables them to raise voice against injustice with them. She said that present PPP government in collaboration with its coalition partners is working to eradicate social evils from the society.
She said that behavioural change among men is need of hour as it can bring positive change and favourable atmosphere for women in different fields of society. She said that menace of Karo Kari needs to be eradicated, which is possible only through education and religious awareness among the masses.
The Provincial Secretary Women Development Ghulam Muhammad Umrani, Chairman IMSA Syed Shafique Hyder Mousvi and Chief Executive Officer IMSA, Azhar Rind; Principal IMSA Qasimabad, Sobhia Mari and a lawyer from America Dr Zaffar Bugti also addressed the seminar. Later, she inaugurated Women Complaint Cell at Qasimabad Phase-I and said that this cell to attend the complaints of women from districts of defunct Hyderabad division.
Responding a question, she said that Sindh government has planned for rehabilitation of victim women, providing shelter and services in case they are not accepted by their parents. She stressed the philanthropists to come forward and make these efforts effective so that the women in depressed could be facilitated accordingly. She said that in order to save the victim women from mental distortion, a psychologist has been provided at each complaint centre.
