Girls school targeted in Wana

DI KHAN: Unidentified militants blew up a middle school for girls in Mughal Khel village, about half a kilometre south of Wana Bazaar, around midnight on Tuesday, said an official of the political administration.

The official said militants planted an explosive device near Islamia Public School around midnight when there was no teaching staff or student present. The main gate of the school was destroyed while the building was partially damaged in the ensuing blast.

The official added investigation into the incident is under way. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Wana sub-division of South Waziristan is relatively safer than other sub-divisions as such attacks on educational institutions seldom occur in the region.
