Girl’s hair cut off by brother-in-law

KARACHI: A woman was tortured and her hair cut off by her husband’s brother in Karachi city of Sindh province, while in another incident of violence against women, a woman suffered burns in an acid attack in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday.

Media reports said a man tortured and cut off hair of his sister-in-law, 15-year-old Rimsha, in Sohrab Goth area of Karachi. Rimsha went to a police station, and lodged a complaint against her brother-in-law.

Acting immediately, police arrested Sharifuddin and registered a case against him. He told police he cut Rimsha’s hair off because she did not stop talking over mobile phone for hours, even after she was repeatedly asked not to do so.

In Balakot tehsil of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, a woman received injuries after her husband threw acid into her face over the suspicion that she was having illicit relations with a villager. According to police, the incident took place in Satbani village, where a man doubted character of his wife Shamshad.
Reports said the man used to torture his wife after which her parents took her their home.

A reconciliatory jirga was summoned, where the man failed to prove his wife guilty. The accused in the wee hours of Sunday barged into his in-laws’ place along with his brothers and fled the scene after throwing acid on Shamshad. The injured was shifted to tehsil headquarters hospital for treatment and later referred to Abbottabad for better care. Her father, Muhammad Haroon, has appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the incident and bring the culprits to book.
