Girl’s father, stepmother held for her torture

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) on Tuesday took into custody a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly tortured by her stepmother and her father at Akbarabad in Faisalabad.

Reports said CPO Ghulam Mubashar Maiken got information from media about the torture of Zainab and he sent anti-women harassment and violence cell personnel to the house. The officials handed over the girl to the CPWB and was later admitted to hospital.

The girl said she ate noodles without the permission of her stepmother Asma Bibi who and father Muhammad Sahil tortured her. She also revealed that her minor brother had left the house due to severe torture by the stepmother.

Police arrested the couple and registered a case against them.

According to the FIR registered under section 34 of The Punjab Destitute and Neglected Children Act 2004 and sections 324, 328 A and 34 of PPC on the complaint of Child Protection Officer Robina Iqbal, Zainab said she was burnt with iron rods.

The protesters told reporters that scores of growers were beaten by the mill employees and two were injured in firing but a case was registered against the victims rather than mill employees.

They demanded that the FIR be quashed and registered against the mill employees.

Police said Dr Muhammad Ramzan posted at a veterinary hospital of Chak 430-JB was going on his motorcycle when his vehicle slipped owing to dense fog. He was injured and taken to the Gojra THQ Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Gojra city police said Nomi, son Muhammad Zahid, a resident of New Plots area, was playing near the oven when the boiling milk fell on him. He was taken to the THQ hospital where he succumbed to his burns.
