Girl was killed by parents, alleges husband

SUKKUR, Nov 26: Suspicions that Ms Amna Khushk had been murdered as punishment for marrying of her own free will gathered strength on Wednesday after her parents produced her elder sister before police and claimed she was Amna.

According to sources, Ms Amna, daughter of Qadir Bux Khushk who belonged to Moza Jangi near Khanpur Katora, Punjab, had eloped with one Hashim Khushk and married him in a Bahawalpur court four months ago.

Her parents who were not happy over the marriage kept chasing the couple and managed to capture Ms Amna in Sindh.

They brought Amna to her sister’s house in Dubbi village near Jarwar in the limits of Ghotki district, the sources said.

On Tuesday evening Hashim Khushk told police at Jarwar check-post that his wife had been killed by her parents, sources said, adding that when he went to the house of Amna’s sister Saeeda Khushk, wife of Shoukat Khushk, they tried to kill him but he managed to escape.

Later, a police party raided the village and asked Qadir Bux to hand over Amna.

They produced a girl claiming that she was Amna and police brought her to check-post for investigation, the sources said.

Police learnt in the course of interrogation that the girl was not Amna but her elder sister Saeeda.

SPO Mirpur Mathelo Abdul Khaliq Wagan said that he had learnt that Amna had been engaged to her cousin Allah Dino Khushk but she loved Hashim and eloped with him of her own free will four months ago.

He confirmed that the girl produced before police was not Amna but her elder sister Saeeda.

He dismissed the suspicions that Amna had been killed and claimed that her parents were reluctant to produce her because they feared she would give statement against them in court, which would then hand her to Hashim.

He was hopeful the mystery would be solved soon.
