Kohat: Police arrested a man who killed his granddaughter in the name of honour here in Mandoni area of Kohat district in K-P on Thursday.
He was trying to run away after committing the crime but was arrested by police along with the pistol used in the brutal murder.
Talking to The Express Tribune DSP Saddar Nazir Hussain said that they were informed by local residents that in the far-flung area of Shadi Pur, Mandani a man and woman had been shot in the name of honour. After receiving the news SHO Gumbat was dispatched to the area along with a team.
“Police found a woman Yasmin Bibi dead and a man Rizwan Shah badly injured inside a room at a house who was rushed to the nearby hospital,” he said, adding that police managed to arrest the accused Habib Khan who is the maternal grandfather of deceased Yasmin Bibi.
“Habib Khan confessed to his crime. He informed police that he visited his daughter in Mandoni Shahdi Pur. No one was home when he reached there but Habib found his granddaughter Yasmin with a boy Rizwan. He took his pistol and shot them both. Yasmin succumbed to her injuries while Rizwan has been left severally injured,” he said, adding that police had recovered the pistol used in the attack from his possession.
“The accused has been booked for honour killing and he confessed that he was so enraged that he was not able to control himself and shot the couple,” informed the DPS, adding that the pistol had been sent for forensic examination.
The condition of the injured is stated to be critical.
