BATKHELA: A girl was gunned down allegedly by her maternal uncles at Batkhela city in Malakand district, an official said.
Assistant Commissioner Shakil Khan told The News the accused Farooq, Hammad and Hafeezullah hailing from Swat district barged into the house of their sister at Batkhela city and opened fire, killing Kainat and injuring her father, Ayaz.
He said the slain girl Kainat was getting engaged on the fateful day when her maternal uncles, who were apparently unhappy over her engagement, arrived at her home armed with firearms and started shooting the inmates. The girl was killed on the spot while her father Ayaz sustained injuries in the firing. Other inmates of the house escaped unhurt. The Malakand Levies lodged a case against the accused on the complaint of Jalal, son of Ayaz.
