Four more women fall prey to ‘knifeman’

KARACHI: Four more women were stabbed and injured by a mysterious ‘knifeman’ in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Gulshan-i-Iqbal areas on Wednesday, bringing the total number of such attacks to 11 officially.

The police have failed to arrest the apparently lone attacker over the past one week targeting women in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and adjoining areas.

The attacks took place in Gulistan-i-Jauhar and Sharea Faisal areas, where the police authorities had claimed to have made “heavy deployment” of police in plainclothes at around 30 points to arrest the attacker.

A police spokesperson on Wednesday evening admitted that three more women had been stabbed and injured by the unidentified attacker.

These incidents occurred within the jurisdiction of the Aziz Bhatti and Sharea Faisal police stations.

The spokesperson said that Ms Naureen was stabbed and wounded near busy Millennium Mall in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. In another incident a woman, identified as Arisha, was stabbed and injured by a suspect riding a motorbike in Gulshan-i-Iqbal at Aziz Bhatti Park adjacent to the busy Nipa flyover.

The third incident of stabbing occurred in Gulshan-i-Jamal within the remit of the Sharea Faisal police where Ms Sonia was attacked by a suspect riding motorbike.

A fourth incident reportedly occurred in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, where 13-year-old Laiba was injured in a knife attack and brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.
