Four rape, murder suspects held

KARACHI: The Jamshed quarters police arrested four suspects, including a teenaged boy, for being involved in raping and killing a neighbor woman a couple of weeks ago, police said.

The police said the arrest came after fingerprints and frequent checks on telephonic conversations of the suspects helped the investigators to find out all the four suspects of the rape and murder.

“The prime suspect is 19-year-old Yaseen. He was a neighbour of the victim woman, Shabana,” said Sub-Inspector Ejaz Ahmed, the investigation officer. “He used to frequent the victim’s home and since she had no child, Yaseen ran errands for her and was paid for the job.”

When Shabna’s husband, Saleem Javed, was in his hometown Abbottabad to attend a family event, Yaseen called his three friends — Babar Lodhi, Raus alias Deputy and Shahid — to rob her house.

“On the night between Sept 25 and 26, all the four suspects jumped into her home, raped her, took away her cellphone, jewellery and a few thousand rupees from the home and finally strangled her,” said the police officer. “The autopsy of the body by the medico-legal section of the Civil Hospital established that the woman was raped by more than two men before she was killed.”

He said an FIR (485/2009) was registered under Sections 302, 376, 392 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code by the Jamshed Quarters police on the complaint of the victim’s husband.
