Five women, man fall prey to ‘honour killing’

DASKA/SARGODHA: Five women including two sisters and a man were killed ‘in the name of honour’ in separate incidents occurred in different areas on Monday.

In Sargodha, a man identified as Umer Hayat gunned down his two sisters – Noreen, 30, and Razia Bibi, 22 – on suspicion of having ‘bad character.’ The incident occurred in suburban village 41 North in the jurisdictions of Satellite Town Police. The killer managed to flee the scene after the crime.

In village 58 South in the remit of Atta Shaheed Police, Tasawar allegedly murdered his wife – 24-year-old Kausar – with repeated blows of dagger for ‘honour.’ The respective police have registered separate cases and handed over the bodies to the heirs after post-mortem.

In Daska, a local landlord along with his two wives was gunned down alleged over ‘free-will marriage issue’ in village Dholleywali on Monday.

Landlord Mushtaq Ghuman had three daughters from his first wife Sajeela Firdous. His family, however, wanted to have a son of him and had developed pressure over him for second marriage ‘for a son.’ In the meantime, he developed illicit relations with a Bahawalpur-based woman Gul Naz Bibi and contracted second marriage with her, against the will of her parents, some two years ago. Unluckily, Gul Naz also gave birth to a girl a year ago. On the other hand, her parents were annoyed over her ‘love marriage’ with Mushtaq and used to hurl threats of dire consequences.

On Monday, Gul Naz’s father Tariq, uncle Zia and nephew Khurram arrived here from Bahawalpur. They allegedly stormed into her house in village Dholleywali. They started indiscriminate firing, killing Mushtaq, his first wife Sajeela Firdous and second wife Gul Naz on the spot. The accused fled away on a motorcycle ‘raising victory slogans.’

The Daska Saddr Police have registered a triple murder case against nominated accused Tariq,
Zia and Khurram on the report of slain landlord’s brother Ehsan Ullah, with no arrest, in this regard.

The police shifted the dead bodies to Daska Civil Hospital for autopsy. Sialkot SP (Investigations) Irfan Tariq Khan reached the spot and collected evidence and eye-witnesses accounts about the brutal murders.

He said that a special police team has started raids for early arrest of the killers.
Meanwhile, Hajipura locality, a 12-year-old Ameer Muaviya was gunned down after a failed patch up attempt to resolve a domestic issue at the home of victim’s uncle Muhammad Ashfaq Rehmani’s house. The Daska city police have registered a case.

Another girl killed over ‘dowry’
